Responsibilities As A Rider
As a rider, you must be ready for the bus at the beginning of your pick-up window or the ready time given to you by dispatch, if you have a drop-off window. Once the bus arrives within your designated window the bus will wait 5 minutes for you to come out to the bus. If you do not come out within the 5 minutes the bus will depart and mark your trip as a No Show. If a passenger has too many No Shows it could result in loss of riding privileges
Riders are to maintain any mobility devices, including batteries, brakes, wheels and controls. Riders must also provide an accessible pathway without steps at the pick-up location and destination. If there are any changes to the rider’s personal information, it is the rider’s responsibility to contact Metro. This includes mobility device or type, phone number, address, emergency contact information and PCA information.
All riders are required to follow Metro policies, maintain good personal hygiene, where a seat belt and adhere to all items found in Metro’s Code of Conduct.
How Can A Driver Assist Me?
- Assist with fastening your seat belt
- Secure your mobility device
- Assist with boarding and disembarking the vehicle
- Assist on the lift when boarding and disembarking.
- If requested at the time of booking, driver will assist passengers to and from the exterior door of the ground floor of a building.
Drivers are not allowed to enter buildings/residences. They must remain in a visual sight of the vehicle. Driver’s are also not allowed to operate oxygen tanks.
Can Anyone Ride With Me?
Riders are allowed to have others ride with them. All individuals riding with passengers must be picked up and dropped off at the same locations as the rider. Must advise dispatch when you make the appointment that others will be riding with you, so we insure there is enough space for all riders.
- Personal Care Attendant – 1 allowed, rides free
- Companion – 1 allowed, pay normal fare
- Rider’s Children – pay normal fare dependent on their age
Approved Items To Bring On Metro Plus
- Service Animals
- Personal Oxygen Tank
- Groceries (what can be carried in a single trip)
- Luggage (up to 2 pieces/person, driver cannot handle luggage)
- items you can carry to and from the vehicle independently and can be stowed properly
Visitors to Kankakee County
Metro provides paratransit service to visitors with disabilities who do not live in Metro’s service area. Visitor’s must provide:
- Documentation of ADA eligibility from their home jurisdiction of residence OR
- May apply through Metro for visitor status.
