The following is information about using River Valley Metro for your transportation needs.

FARES
River Valley Metro accepts cash, tokens, paper passes and Transit Token app for fare payment. Credit cards are not accepted on the bus. Drivers are also unable to give change, so you must have the correct fare. Children age 5 and under are free. For more information on fares, click here.

WHEELCHAIRS AND MOBILITY DEVICES
All River Valley Metro Vehicles are accessible via ramps or lifts. Maximum combined weight of device and passenger is 600 pounds on local fixed route buses and 800# on Midway buses. Wheelchairs will be secured by the driver, with a four-point floor securement and a lap belt. Shoulder straps are recommended but are optional.

LOWERING A BUS FOR BOARDING OR DISEMBARKING
Some of Metro’s buses have the capability of lowering to assist with boarding and disembarking the bus. Passengers can request the driver to kneel the bus to lower it or the use of the ramp. The kneeling feature is only available on buses with ramps. If a bus is equipped with a lift instead of a ramp, the bus cannot be lowered. but the passenger can request the use of the lift to board and disembark.

USE OF RESPIRATOR, CONCENTRATORS OR PORTABLE OXYGEN
Passengers are allowed to travel with the items listed above. The driver can assist with securing the item, but the driver CANNOT operate the tank mechanism or anything else.

PRIORITY SEATING
Priority seating is located in the front of each vehicle for individuals with disabilities. Anyone is allowed to use this seating but may be asked to move if a senior or disabled individual boards and needs a priority seat. The priority seating area is noted with decals on or near the windows. Fold up seats are also located in this area. This is the designated wheelchair securement location. If a wheelchair passenger boards, any passengers seated in this area will need to relocate to accommodate the wheelchair.

ACCESSIBLE FORMATS
Metro can provide you information in accessible formats, such as large print, audio tape, TDD, etc.

ANIMALS 
Service animals are welcome on River Valley Metro. Emotional support animals “comfort animals” are not considered service animals within the context of the USDOT ADA regulations. For more information on service animal guidelines click here. Other animals are permitted as long as the animal is in a carrier. Leashes are not considered a carrier.
